Boxing superstar Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) will make his return to the ring as he is set to defend his WBA world lightweight title against WBA world super featherweight champion Lamont Roach (25-1 -1, 10 KO) Saturday night March 1, 2025.

This PBC Champion vs Champion event will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and will air live on Amazon Prime pay-per-view. Davis plans to successfully defend his title and remain undefeated, while his opponent, Lamont Roach, will attempt to pull off a huge upset.
Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach have some history as they have faced each other twice in the amateurs. Both matches were competitive, but Davis ultimately won on both occasions. The rivalry between Davis and Roach will continue at the professional level, but the bout was not well received by all boxing fans.
On the one hand there are the casuals who are completely enthusiastic about this meeting. They saw the chatter at the press conference and now they want to see the fight. Besides the Gervonta “Tank” Davis brand, another driving force that makes this fight marketable even to casuals is geography.
Separated by about 40 miles, Baltimore and Washington D.C. are rivals, but the rivalry between the two cities is not based on sports. The rivalry is about the two individual cities’ disagreements and cultural differences. However, when sports comes into play, both cities support their respective teams.

That being said, Gervonta Davis happens to be originally from Baltimore, Maryland, and Lamont Roach was born in Washington DC. Casual fans are looking forward to this March 1st matchup, while the other set of fans are not thrilled with the Tank vs Roach matchup.
On the other side of the spectrum, we have the most die-hard fans. Die-hard fans are more knowledgeable about the intricacies of the sport of boxing and always want to see the best fights possible.
In the 1980s Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Thomas “The Hitman” Hearns were given the nickname “The Four Kings”. All four boxers experienced individual success and faced each other inside the squared circle.
In 2021, the media has labeled Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez, and Devin Haney as the new version of The Four Kings. All four boxers had individual successes, but did not face each other in the ring. Ryan Garcia is the only boxer to face multiple rivals, as he fought both Davis and Haney.
In addition to the other Kings, undefeated WBC lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson is another high-profile fighter who hardcore fans want Davis to fight in the ring. Lamont Roach is a good fighter, but most hardcore fans don’t care about this fight because they know what’s going to happen.
On March 1, Roach will go out and win the first few rounds until Davis dumps the data. Once Davis gets his tempo down, he will proceed to advance and overwhelm his opponent with hard, precise strikes. Once the punishment accumulates, Davis gets the stoppage between rounds 6-10.
The above scenario is what most hardcore fans expect to happen in this fight. What they want is for Davis to run away and fight the best opponents available. When they look at Lamont Roach, they see a good boxer, but they feel like he’s not the best option available.
Despite being dissatisfied, hardcore fans will continue to watch the Tank vs Roach fight. March 1, 2025, it will be Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach, it will be Baltimore vs. DC. This fight will be an epic event more suited to casual fans, but hopefully sometime in the year 2025 Gervonta Davis will give hardcore fans the high-profile fights they’ve been waiting for.
