Jaime Munguia was surprisingly knocked out by Bruno Surace, a fighter with only four knockouts, in the sixth round of their clash at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, Mexico on Saturday night.

Canelo matchup
What made this knockout of Surace (26-0-2, 5 KOs) more impressive was the fact that he had to get off the platform in the second round to come back to KO Munguia with a single punch in the sixth round.
What does this say about Canelo Alvarez? Even he couldn’t defeat Munguia (44-2, 35 KOs) when they faced each other on May 4 in Las Vegas. Canelo defeated Mugnuia with a 12-round unanimous decision and never came close to KOing him.
Losing in front of his hometown fans in Tijuana, Mexico must be a bitter pill to swallow for Munguia because everyone saw what happened. Its popularity is about to wane in Mexico now.

Berlanga’s plans failed
Edgar Berlanga took the news of Munguia’s loss rather badly. He was hoping to face him in a Mexico vs. Puerto Rico PPV match. Berlanga complained that Munguia messed up the bag, which is fair enough.
Surace would eliminate Berlanga with the way he fought tonight. He would deal with him easily, just as he had with Munguia.
A fight between them on PPV would be an impossible sell, as both guys are coming off losses. It would be impossible to sell, especially when one of them didn’t even try to win but managed to survive.
What New York-born Berlanga should do is call Surace and, if he can’t get him, fight Caleb Plant. There is no bag for Berlanga. Canelo won’t fight him again, and Munguia certainly won’t either.
SMH!!!! Mungia fucked up!!!!!!
