If Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fought this year in 2025, who would win?

The rivalry between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has existed for years, but it only exists outside the ring and in theoretical terms. Once upon a time, Fury was the WBC and lineal heavyweight champion of the world, Joshua was the unified IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion, and the expectation was that these two would have an inevitable showdown for the undisputed heavyweight supremacy. This never happened, however.

Right now Fury and Joshua are both showing signs of decline. Joshua has a 6-4 record in his last 10 fights, including a loss to Andy Ruiz Jr, a pair of losses to reigning heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk, and most recently getting destroyed by Daniel Dubois. Fury is coming off consecutive defeats, the only 2 defeats of his professional career, both against Usyk. Ultimately, neither Fury nor Joshua turned out to be the best in this era. Instead it was Oleksandr Usyk who conquered the division, and he did so in truly impressive style, becoming the first undisputed world heavyweight champion in the modern 4-belt era following his first of two victories against Fury.

As for Usyk, the next logical opponent for him would be the winner of the upcoming bout between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker. However, the winner of that fight could have the opportunity to get a much bigger prize than he would get against Usyk if he defended against Fury, or especially Joshua, instead. That aside, assuming the winner of Dubois-Parker faces Usyk next, then a Fury vs. AJ fight makes a lot of sense for both Fury and Joshua.

The truth is, even if neither is a champion, and even if both are past their best, a clash between Fury and Joshua remains an interesting prospect with lasting implications for both heavyweights. It would also undoubtedly be a huge event where both fighters would be in line to earn big money.
